Andalusia

Andalusia is much like other islands in the region when it boils down to a geographic sense. The land is incredibly diverse in nature, being both a very wild, as well as tame, land. Andalusia borders Portugal on its western side, the Mediterranean Sea to the south, Murcia to the east and Castile-La Mancha to the north.

Andalusia’s geographic layout is as rich and diverse as its past. The island has several major mountain ranges, flat plains and forests. The two main mountain ranges in Andalusia are the Cordillera Subbetica and Cordillera Penibetica. However, the tallest mountain in Andalusia is neither one of those; it is a peak called Mulhacen. The Mulhacen reaches up to three thousand meters in height.

Aside from its natural beauty, Andalusia has other interesting attractions. One main point of interest in Andalusia is the Alhambra. The Alhambra is a palace that was built back in the ninth century and now serves as an open museum to the public.

It’s architectural beauty and colorful history has made it a very popular spot for tourists. Another popular destination in Andalusia is the Mosque of Cordoba. People come to the Mosque from all over the world to see the museum’s antique art pieces. The Mosque itself is a fine tribute to the past. Aside from the many different museums all throughout Andalusia, there are also sports stadiums, park facilities and recreational centers that specialize in the performing arts. Andalusia makes an excellent vacation spot for most any traveler.
